I had the opportunity to work on an ambitious project during my time as a university student: the creation of a manual aimed at promoting and preserving the Italian language in elementary schools in Canton Uri, Switzerland, targeting pupils between the ages of 10 and 12. This comprehensive handbook includes materials for students, a guide for teachers, exercise sheets and online tests.

Abstract

The visual concept I developed revolves around the concept of growth during a journey. Each stage of a journey represents a starting point, an opportunity to discover something new, and a progression along the way. Similarly, the journey of learning Italian in Switzerland follows a step-by-step structure, with each step represented graphically. Learners will experience a linguistic and communicative evolution, moving from a simple graphic style consisting of lines, to more complex geometric shapes, colors and details, in parallel with the improvement of their language skills. It was important to consider accessibility issues such as dyslexia and color blindness.

To make the textbook more interactive and accessible, I integrated augmented reality technology. Students can access the virtual content of the textbook using phones, computers, and other devices via QR codes. Not only does this innovative approach promote accessibility for those with physical disabilities, but it also allows the textbook tradition to be combined with the latest augmented reality technology, enriching the learning experience.
